NTPA JOINS USA-EAST FOR 2009 CANFIELD FAIR PULL

The Canfield Fair Open Tractor and Truck Pull has been the top pulling event in eastern Ohio for many years and 2009 will mark another milestone in the emergence of this spectacular event.   The National Tractor Pullers Association (NTPA), the oldest sanctioning body in the sport of pulling will join with USA-EAST to Co-Sanction the pull.   The NTPA is the sport’s oldest and most respected truck and tractor pulling sanctioning organization. Governed by a board of directors, the NTPA is managed by World Pulling International (WPI), an independently owned entity. Headquartered in Worthington, Ohio, the NTPA provides rules and regulations and the infrastructures required for organizations throughout the country to arrange truck and tractor pulls.

Saturday, September 5, 2009 at 7:00pm has been reserved for the pull.  This is the Saturday evening of Labor Day Week-end.  The event will be promoted by and produced by Full Pull Productions of Jamestown, Pennsylvania for the fourteenth straight year.   The co-sanctioning partner will be USA-EAST Sled Pulling, Inc.  USA-EAST is a regional sanctioning body for the sport of tractor and truck pulling.  The geographic area encompassed by USA-EAST lies predominantly in the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio and New York.  Over 200 pullers in eight different classes of competition were members of USA-EAST in 2008.  The 2009 season will make the third year of operation of this ever-growing regional sanctioning association.

A meeting was recently held during the International Fairs Convention in Las Vegas to finalize the plans for this trend-setting arrangement.  Lee Kohler, one the Canfield Fair Directors, met with Gregg Randall, NTPA General Office Manager and Dave Schreier. President of World Pulling International, as well as Rick Feicht, President and CEO of Full Pull Productions.  This meeting resulted in a ‘plan of action’ that will allow the two sanctioning bodies to work together to bring a new level of competition to the pulling world.

One of the highlights of the co-sanction will be the appearance of the NTPA Unlimited Modified Tractors at Canfield for the first time in many years.   These awesome multi-engine machines are the most powerful vehicles in the pulling sport.  Featuring up to five V-8 engines as well as multiple turbines and aircraft engines for power the Unlimiteds generate a new level of fan appreciation.

The Canfield Pull will also mark the return the Modified Semi “Shoot Out” to the sport.  For many years the Big Rigs from Full Pull Productions and the Super Semis from NTPA competed at the famed Buck Motor Sports Park near Lancaster, Pennsylvania in the only nationally co-sanctioned contest for the modified semis.  This event was abandoned about six years ago.  Now the Canfield Fair will return this Semi “Shoot-Out” to showcase the best of the Big Rigs and the best of Super Semis on the same track at the same time.  The top modified semi trucks in North America will be at Canfield for this inaugural event.

Three other pulling classes will be contested on two side-by-side tracks at Canfield using the Decision Maker weight transfer machines.  These classes will be strictly USA-EAST Sanctioned divisions:

  • “Smoker Series” Tractors:  10,000 pound Pro Stock Tractors and 9,500 pound Super Stock Tractors.  This class is ‘open to the world’.
  • ‘Run What Ya Brung’ 4x4 Trucks:  A combined class bringing the best modified gasoline trucks and the best pro stock diesel trucks together.  Participants will qualify through the USA-EAST point race.
  • Limited Pro/Super Farm Tractors:  8700 pound Limited Pros and 9300 pound Super Farm tractors.  Participants will qualify through the USA-EAST point race.

The Canfield Fair is located in eastern Ohio just south of Youngstown, Ohio and just south of Interstate 80 and the Ohio Turnpike.  The fairground features exceptional facilities for both pullers and fans.  The Fair is the largest county fair in the state of Ohio and annually draws upwards of 12,000 fans to pulling event.

More information on this gigantic pulling event including ticket information will be forthcoming from the Canfield Fair in Canfield, Ohio.
